Advocacy, campaigns and awards

Library and information professionals contribute to a fair and prosperous society. CILIP works hard to ensure that this is recognised. We do this through our campaigns, our public affairs activity, and our awards and medals promoting best practice.

  • Advocacy and campaigns

The leading voice for the sector, CILIP promotes the importance of the library, information and knowledge management community. We work with politicians, the media, the general public and key organisations to ensure that your voice is heard and that your value is recognised.

CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Children's Book Awards

The UK's oldest and most prestigious children's book awards, the CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Medals are awarded annually by school librarians. Often described by authors and illustrators as 'the one they want to win' - they are the gold standard in children's literature. Our successful Shadowing scheme engages thousands of children and young people in reading the books on the shortlist every year.

  • Mentor of the Year Award

If you have been helped, inspired and guided by a mentor who has had a positive impact on your personal and professional development, nominate them for the CILIP Mentor of the Year Award.

Advice, support and having a critical friend can make a real difference to your career, from applying for your first job, to taking high-level strategic decisions. The CILIP mentor scheme also gives those further in their careers the chance to shape their sector and share their wisdom.

  • Honorary Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship is the highest recognition that CILIP can give to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the library and information world.

It can sometimes be awarded to members of the profession as a reflection of the respect and regard of their colleagues for a particularly important contribution over a long period of time.

  • CILIP Libraries Change Lives Award

The CILIP Libraries Change Lives Award is a national award open to UK-based library, information and knowledge-based services or initiatives from any sector that have a positive and demonstrable impact on their user community.

The award is organised by CILIP's Community, Diversity and Equality Group and CILIP.
